Motor City Madhouse

The typically slow Motor City Friday was enlivined by a thorough display of copyright enforcement. I was talking to Dave Aiken about music when everyone around started pointing and whispering in shock and amazement. It took a few moments for us to realize that two of the people in the group across from us where police and the the others were in cuffs!

It was a massive bust of DVD pirates. I heard reports that up to 16 booths had been closed down. People spoke of a large group of sad fat men in handcuffs and a bus waiting to take them away.

The bootleggers have been a part of the convention for as long as I can remember, and everyone was startled that suddenly anyone cared, but whatever your thoughts on the legality or morality of buying and selling boots you have to be prepared to deal with the fact that it is illegal. My biggest worry is what effect this will have on the cost of tablespace in the future.

Guess I won't be looking for "Eek! the Cat" today. :)

One of my favorite parts of going to the Pittsburgh Comicon has always been sneaking away from my table to get Foreign DVD's.

I just hope that the foreign DVD sellers are not going to be scared away now.

Although, now where are people going to buy bootleg copies of Heat Vision and Jack?
